CALL FOR COMMUNITY ACTIVATORS AT SWITCH: If you are a community group or organization interested in setting up along the route, we’d like to hear from you. We are currently accepting applications. NEW TO SWITCH? Switch is Downtown Dartmouth’s biggest street party of the year. It’s the day when more than 2 km of streets get closed to traffic and switched open for people! Switch is a celebration of active transportation, sustainable living and community. It’s also the kickoff to this year’s Halifax Bike Week!
Thousands of people of all ages will take over Portland Street and Prince Albert Road from Alderney Landing to Sullivan’s Pond Park. We’re programming music stages on the route, plus roving entertainers, live demos, bouncy castles and lots more surprises.
Stay tuned for details.
@switchhfx is organized by the Planning and Design Centre and Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission

The Nova Scotia Multicultural Festival will also be kicking of their 30th anniversary celebration with a street party on Portland St. Enjoy a variety of cultural music and activities while you stroll, walk or run by!
After the huge success of Dartmouth Switch we’re looking forward to returning to the Halifax route for the last Switch of 2013. Visit the “Switch Halifax” page for a route map and a list of activities lined up for this Sunday’s Switch.
2013’s first Switch: Open Streets event drew the spirit of active living and play. The little chill in the air cooled cyclists and rollerbladers going up and down the route and the dancers who found themselves at North and Agricola, hopping to bohemian tunes. Around 11am, a group of kids riding bicycles and tricycles led the first charge down North Park St.
Thanks to all of our volunteers who came out to support Switch, sponsors, and community partners: Halifax Community Health Board, the Halifax Cycling Coalition, North End Business Association, Breakhouse, and Stepping Up. See you all back on the route this September 8th!
