SAVE THE DATE!
Switch Dartmouth is Sunday, June 2 from noon to 4 p.m.
CALL FOR COMMUNITY ACTIVATORS AT SWITCH: If you are a community group or organization interested in setting up along the route, we’d like to hear from you. We are currently accepting applications. All you have to do is email email@example.com and let us know who you are and how you’d like to engage with the crowd at Switch 2019. We’ll get back to you right away.
NEW TO SWITCH? Switch is Downtown Dartmouth’s biggest street party of the year. It’s the day when more than 2 km of streets get closed to traffic and switched open for people! Switch is a celebration of active transportation, sustainable living and community. It’s also the kickoff to this year’s Halifax Bike Week!
Thousands of people of all ages will take over Portland Street and Prince Albert Road from Alderney Landing to Sullivan’s Pond Park. We’re programming music stages on the route, plus roving entertainers, live demos, bouncy castles and lots more surprises.
Stay tuned for details.
@switchhfx is organized by the Planning and Design Centre and Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission
The Planning and Design Centre is getting excited thinking about the potential for Switch in 2014 with three Switch Open Street Sundays in 2013 there is a lot of momentum.
But in order to build the case for Switch it is helpful for us to understand people’s experience in Switch Open Street Sundays in 2013 in Halifax and Dartmouth. More specifically, how do Open Streets help to build community or change the way people think about our public spaces (streets)?
Below is the link to a short survey.
Please help us share this link around so we can make a stronger case for more Switch Open Street Sundays in 2014. Also stay tuned for exciting volunteer appreciation event in early November.
It’s only been a few days since our last Switch Open Street Sunday event and already the discussion about where to go next has been taking off. Wednesday June 12th the Planning and Design Centre, Stepping Up and a team of volunteers got together to dream big and envision what the exciting future of Switch could look like. The conversations were engaging and offered some excellent insight into the impact of Switch Open Street Sunday on the community and everyone involved.
But we’re not stopping there. On Wednesday June 19th a second Dream Session will be held to continue the discussion and grow the possibilities of this amazing event. We invite you to attend our second Dream Session, which will be taking place at the JBO Centre, 2103 Gottingen Street in Halifax at 6:30-8:30pm. There is no RSVP required and snacks will be provided.
Can’t wait to see you there!

Why did you come to Switch Open Street Sundays on June 9? (Or why didn’t you come?) Was it for the Recreation, Family Fun, to make a political statement, to bike, jog, people watch, or do you just happen to live on the route?
Last Sunday, as part of HRM Bike Week, a 2km route on the Halifax peninsula was closed to vehicular traffic from 10am to 3pm and open to walkers, runners, bikers, in-line skaters, strollers, and much more. Inspired by the growing number of successful “open street” type events hosted in cites across the globe, Switch is about promoting healthy and active living, in a fun and festive community-based atmosphere.
