Switch Halifax 2017

Switch Open Street Sunday happens in Halifax on Sunday Sept 24, 2017, 12pm to 4pm with open street events on Spring Garden Road and Agricola Street, helping to animate Halifax’s city streets and public spaces with activities, events, and entertainment alongside existing activities at Halcon 2017, Citadel National Park, and HRM’s recreation activities at the Oval.  Switch Halifax brings people to open streets while inviting them to, switch their cars “off” and switch “on” the street with entertainment, markets, recreation and activities all connected by active transportation paths.

Want to be involved as a community group, vendor, or food truck? scroll down!

Switch Halifax 2017 takes place in the Spring Garden Area, on Spring Garden Road, from South Park to Queen Street, as well as the North End, on Agricola Street between Charles and Almon Streets. Attendees are invited to park their car for the day and traverse the city by foot, by bike or by bus and experience the many activities available for those who take the extra time and explore Halifax Oval, Citadel Hill, Downtown Halifax and Grand Parade, the Waterfront on their way from Spring Garden Road to Agricola Street. Switch Halifax showcases what can happen when we think differently about how we use our streets and public spaces, as well as how fun, easy, and fast it can be to traverse the peninsula by bike or on foot.

“Switch creates incredible opportunities to meet your neighborhood, see the activities and cultures it includes, and explore what happens when we switch on people instead of cars.” Jeremy Banks, Director of the Planning & Design Centre

We are delighted to have the Spring Garden area as a key destination for Switch Halifax. The Spring Garden Area Business Association is proud to be a sponsor of this event that provides a new, exciting way for people to experience the many shops, services, and attractions available in the area. ” Juanita Spencer, Executive Director, Spring Garden Area Business Association

Help Support Open Streets!

If you love Switch as much as we do, you can help by expressing your support for Andrew Younger’s Traffic Control Persons Bill. Enabling well-trained volunteers to assist with street closures means lower operating costs for events like Switch. If street closures are more affordable, Open Street Sundays can happen more frequently.

Email Andrew Younger at info@andrewyounger.ca and CC the Department of Transportation at tirmin@novascotia.ca. Let your representatives know why you love Switch and why Open Streets are important to you!

See you in Dartmouth on June 5th!
