The dates for the two upcoming Switch: Open Streets Dartmouth 2014 have been selected! Come out from 12:00pm – 4:00pm on Sunday, June 15th and Sunday, August 24th, 2014 to celebrate Downtown Dartmouth!
To make this event successful, we are proposing to close the street to vehicle traffic from Portland and Alderney Drive up to Prince Albert St. and Cottage Hill Dr. To facilitate this, HRM is restricting on-street parking along the Switch route for the duration of the event and would encourage you to park on a side street the night before. There will be no access for local traffic to businesses and residential driveways on the proposed route during the event. In case of emergencies or special circumstances there will be police and route marshals to assist you in accessing your personal property, driveway or business.
See you on the streets!
We’re excited to announce we’ve gotten the go ahead for the August 25th Switch Dartmouth route. It’s been great working with the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission to bring this dream to life!
It’s only been a few days since our last Switch Open Street Sunday event and already the discussion about where to go next has been taking off. Wednesday June 12th the Planning and Design Centre, Stepping Up and a team of volunteers got together to dream big and envision what the exciting future of Switch could look like. The conversations were engaging and offered some excellent insight into the impact of Switch Open Street Sunday on the community and everyone involved.
But we’re not stopping there. On Wednesday June 19th a second Dream Session will be held to continue the discussion and grow the possibilities of this amazing event. We invite you to attend our second Dream Session, which will be taking place at the JBO Centre, 2103 Gottingen Street in Halifax at 6:30-8:30pm. There is no RSVP required and snacks will be provided.
Can’t wait to see you there!

As part of Bike Week, a 2km route on the Halifax peninsula will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, June 9, and open to walkers, runners, bikers, in-line skaters, strollers, and much more. Inspired by the growing number of successful “open street” type events hosted in cites across the globe, Switch is about promoting healthy and active living, in a fun and festive community-based atmosphere. This will be the second Switch in Halifax, with the hope of making it a regular event.
